New Orleans Fun Facts

  •  It’s pronounced New Or-linz, not Nawlins, New Orleenz, not New Orlee-ans, say it with me New Or-linz.
  • Unlike most states who use counties to further divide themselves, Louisiana uses parishes. Louisiana has 64 Parishes. Orleans Parish identifies it's famous city New Orleans.
  • According to the National Register, New Orleans has no less than 20 historic districts, more than other cities in the US.
  • The "Superdome" really is a huge shaped dome, and it's home to more than football, you can find an event on the calendar throughout the year.
  •   You really can walk around outside while sipping a real, grownup, alcoholic drink. I wouldn't advise anyone to drink and drive, oh and New Orleans has taxis, Uber, Lyft services and RTA to pick you up after a night out on the town.
  • Frenchman Street is the grownup jazzy version of Bourbon Street. Take the few extra steps to experience it.
  • New Orleans is often called the “Crescent City” because of the distinctive curve of the Mississippi River that runs right through it.
  • The Saint Charles streetcar is one of the country’s only mobile national monuments. You can also add the newly added streetcar routes; Canal Street, Rampart Street and The River to your to do list.
  • Louisiana is home to tons of beaches, Grand Isle is the most popular beach destination from New Orleans. Cypremort Point Beach, Holly Beach, North Beach, Fontainebleau State Park, North Beach, and Shell Beach are all popular destinations. Grab your sunscreen and get ready to sink your toes in the sand while basking in Louisiana's beautiful weather.

Mr. Floyd's Garden

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of meeting the sweetest man with so much knowledge on gardens and fishing... Mr. Floyd.. He invited me to come tour his garden, allow me to take you on a journey with me.. Enjoy the vieux.

Thank God I’m Sprouting!!

While preparing dinner last night, God showed me through this onion that everything that was growing on the inside, it's about to be manifested and revealed on the outside! Glory to God! Be Encouraged and Get in Position to Sprout like crazy!!!

“The righteous will flourish like the date palm [long-lived, upright and useful]; They will grow like a cedar in Lebanon [majestic and stable]. [Growing in grace] they will still thrive and bear fruit and prosper in old age; They will flourish and be vital and fresh [rich in trust and love and contentment];”

‭‭PSALM‬ ‭92:12, 14‬ ‭

Mardi Gras Hash

Jackson Square, a small historic area of New Orleans that packs a big bite, is home to one of my favorite restaurants in New Orleans, Stanley's.

You can get to Stanley's via streetcar, car, ferry..... or ladder.

I always take a couple of menu items and "merge" them into one serving... I call it the Mardi Hash. I order the house potatoes, with fried oysters, soft shell crab and eggs. It's AMAZING!! Add a mimosa and a cup of coffee and you have the perfect brunch! In addition to serving up great food, there's always something festive happening outside the windows of Stanley's. Try them out if you haven't already, if you have, try them again.

Refreshing Water

The generous man [is a source of blessing and] shall be prosperous and enriched, And he who waters will himself be watered [reaping the generosity he has sown]. Proverbs 11:25

On my journey to complete healing, I'm reminded of what I need to add to my daily routine. I also know that God is cleaning me out and preparing me for something BIGGER!!

I am Refreshed! I am on a mission to Refresh Others!!

All things work together for good.

“And we know [with great confidence] that God [who is deeply concerned about us] causes all things to work together [as a plan] for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to His plan and purpose.”

ROMANS 8:28

I was getting ready to post today’s devotion and stumbled on this video, My God! In everything we go through, we should always try to find the good. I had already found mercy, kindness and love to be my go to after last weeks Saints Vs Vikings game, seeing this young mans testimony was LAGNIAPPE (a bonus gift)!!

Somethings may not feel good when it’s happening, but if we take a moment to reflect back we’ll find some good out of it.

As the dew drops fall

“And may God give you of the dew of the heavens and of the fatness of the earth and abundance of grain and [new] wine;”

(Genesis 27:28)

We’ve seen it in pictures, on television and in for many, right in front of us -the morning dew resting on leaves. Many believe the morning dew to be a testament of new blessings. It’s a beautiful site to see with the rising of the sun.

Seeing this morning’s dew frozen on a car next to me reminds me that all blessings won’t appear as beautiful as the dew on grass, in fact for many living in dry places with there’s no greenery, for instance, this mornings scenario, the dew dropped and became solid.

Today I encourage you to expect a blessing, knowing it may not look like what you’re expecting. It could be something better, something that’s going to last longer.

United for Love

“Rejoice with those who rejoice [sharing others' joy], and weep with those who weep [sharing others' grief].”

As I sat in the comfort of my window seat on a day such as this, while many across the globe celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, I could not help but think how grateful I am to be in this season of life, where I get to pick my seat status without the worry of being removed because of the color of my skin. In my gratitude I couldn’t help but to ponder on the many lives who don’t have that fate. The countless boys, girls, women and men bearing my same complexion fighting for a piece of freedom, a sense of belonging, fighting for what’s civically there’s!

As I prepared for takeoff, I whispered a prayer of thanksgiving, asking God to continue to show me what more can I do for peace, unity and love, it’s my prayer that we all do our part. It may not be marching, it may not be walking around singing peace and love carols, it may be strapping up, but there is a part for us all to play, it’s starts with sharing the ups and downs, the joys and grief, United for Love.

Stay planted, Despite!

“For he/she shall be like a tree planted by the waters that spreads out its roots by the river; and it shall not see and fear when heat comes; but its leaf shall be green. It shall not be anxious and full of care in the year of drought, nor shall it cease yielding fruit.”(Jeremiah 17:8)

I’m not sure what was the intent of the person who placed this broken glass at the foot of the beautiful tree, but it reminded me of my life, despite what’s thrown at me, I’m staying planted, praising the promise! My roots and my faith is strong! Today I encourage you to do same -Praise The Promise, not the circumstance(s)! Hold on to your roots, what you know to be true!

Get ready for the blessings to drop down!

“And I will make them and the places round about My hill a blessing, and I will cause the showers to come down in their season; there shall be showers of blessing [of good insured by God's favor].”

In the midst of the rain and fog the planes this morning kept getting my attention. I was like “wow!, these planes are really close!” Even thought they were close, I couldn’t see the names of the airline or the windows of the planes, but I knew inside of these vessels they all were transporting blessings; someone was getting ready to hug heart to heart of the a loved one they hadn’t seen in a while, someone was traveling to sign a contract, a new door being opened, valuable freight was onboard, someone was moving into their new journey, a father/mother/son/daughter enlisted in our nations armed forces was returning from oversees fighting and protecting someone else’s freedom, again, someone was getting ready for a blessing once those planes landed.

Just as I could not see the plane in full view, we may not be able to see the blessings that God is getting ready to pour into our lives, but in faith we have to know like we know, they’re coming! So today I encourage you to look up and give thanks in advance for the blessings that are on the way!!

Time to let it go!

I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.  And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.” Ezekiel 36:26-27

I don’t care how big or small your house is, when you’re bringing home a new baby you have to make room. I really dislike having to throw food away, even if it’s not all that fresh when I come home with new groceries, but it’s something that has to be done to make room for the new groceries. If you have been holding on to pain, betrayal, forgiveness (internal and external), let downs and disappointments, anything that could possibly be keeping you from receiving the “fresh stuff” that God has for you.... Today is the day to let it go! The time is now! Tomorrow is NOT promised!

Don’t worry, just fly!

“Therefore I tell you, stop being perpetually uneasy (anxious and worried) about your life, what you shall eat or what you shall drink; or about your body, what you shall put on. Is not life greater [in quality] than food, and the body [far above and more excellent] than clothing? Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father keeps feeding them. Are you not worth much more than they?”

Matthew6:25-26 AMPC

I was standing in line at a food truck on yesterday, and this pigeon was walking in circles as if it was waiting to, it kept pacing. I thought to myself how bold these little animals are, not bothered by this giant creature with bright red shoes on. Yet, so many of us are afraid to stand bodily before the giants we face. Today I want to encourage you, no matter what giant you are facing, stand before it with boldness, walk in circles to show it how crazy in faith you are. From this day forward, stand boldly, fly, soar in your freedom! Gods got you!
